Simply stated, forest certification is a way to demonstrate that forests are managed sustainably and, in the case of SFI, that wood procurement practices support sustainable forestry. Forest certification, in turn, is then often translated into an assurance to consumers that forest products have been produced from sustainably managed forests.
In addition to the SFI Standard that addresses all aspects of forest management and wood procurement, the SFI, Inc. board of directors direct all other aspects of forest certification, including chain of custody certification and labeling, marketing and promotion.
